Koreti Tiumalu’s parents migrated to New Zealand from Samoa with her three eldest siblings, no money and no English back in 1962. She grew up in Wellington, listening to her families stories of life in the Islands – living off and working the land they loved. This instilled in her a passion for Pacific people and a desire to ‘give back’ for the sacrifices they made. She worked with 350.org for over 5 years on their Pacific campaigns and projects including with the Pacific Climate Warriors.
As an organizer for the Pacific Climate Warriors, Koreti stood boldly in her truth and lived out the words “we are not drowning, we are fighting!” in every way. Sadly, Koreti passed away unexpectedly on 2nd July 2017. You can read a tribute to Koreti at 350.org here. This videos was filmed at Progress 2015 and is an inspiring look at her journey to being a Pacific Climate Warrior.
