Degrowth Festival Resources

Introduction

The Commons librarians have pulled together resources and handouts of recommended resources for Degrowth Festivals held in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. The next one is coming up in March 2026.

Degrowth Festival

Each year, the festival features dozens of stalls run by groups and individuals already practising aspects of degrowth, including local food systems, convivial technologies such as bicycles, lost trades and tool libraries, activist groups fighting to contain the damage from the ways our economy currently operates, social centres and much more. The program also includes talks introducing degrowth and its strategies, workshops led by participating groups, as well as music, dancing, and food. Find out more.

The festival is held by

  • Degrowth Network Australia
  • Brunswick Tool Library
  • Sustain: The Australian Food Network.

Degrowth is an idea that critiques the global capitalist system which pursues economic growth at all costs, causing human exploitation and environmental destruction… Degrowth means transforming societies to ensure environmental justice and a good life for all within planetary boundaries. – From www.degrowth.info
