Join the Commons Community
We are asking people who know, use and value the Commons Library to commit to a monthly donation. Your support gives the Commons a stable base for the long term. Our goal is a total of $1,000 per month from regular givers.
What would this mean?
- $1,000 per month will create a $12,000 per year Rapid Response Fund. This guarantees the Commons Librarians can gather and curate resources at times of crisis and opportunity. Your support will enable us to provide essential resources to change makers when they need them most.
- We already have monthly donations totalling over $600. Sign up to help us go further!
Whether you can contribute $5 per month or $50 per month you’re a valued member of the Commons Community.

Commons Community Update will include recommendations of books, films and podcasts exploring social change. We’ll share stories from members who are doing amazing work for social and ecological justice.
Members of the Commons Community get priority access to the Librarians.
Each quarter we’ll make appointments available for regular givers. You’ll be able to share the social change challenges you’re grappling with and get advice and resources relevant to your situation.
Donations to the Commons are tax deductible due to our Deductible Gift Recipient status.
Why Give Regularly?
Our Commons Community is the backbone of the library. It is thanks to the generosity of our regular givers that we continue to provide the resources which strengthen social movements.
Giving on a regular basis, even if it’s a small amount, is the best way to sustain our work.
The guarantee of ongoing funds provided by your monthly gift means that we can:
- plan for the future
- expand our library and improve our website
- keep up to date with the latest in social change movements and theory
- take on new and exciting projects
Together, with your ongoing support, we can make activism smarter and stronger.
Messages from Our Community
We all want to see real action on the key issues that matter. The Commons provides a space and resources for people to take the power into their own hands, to plan strategically in self-determining ways. – Jessica, Australian Palestinian Action Network (APAN)
Having worked both in paid … and in volunteer organisations I understand that running long term organisations effectively requires reliable funding and that the workers need to be able to focus on the core work rather than constantly worrying about fundraising to stay afloat. – Hugh Rundle, newCardigan
The reason I think it’s important is that it’s investing in a future of more effective organising and social change making, not just for any one cause, but for all causes. – Winnifred Louis, Social Change Lab
…when there was a big upwelling in concern and action about gendered violence the Commons was there again with relevant analysis and tools. – Eleisha Mullane, Australian Education Union
